Welcome to a Physical Therapy Blog

Hello! This blog is to not only help those applying to PT school but SPTs and DPTs as well.

For applicants, filling out PTCAS, researching different schools, essay writing, GRE's, etc. can all be a bit tedious and overwhelming. With more and more applicants for PT school each year, PT school has become that much more difficult to get into. But, it's not impossible! Low GPA, low GRE scores, or lack of hours doesn't mean you won't get in!

PTCAS usually opens up around July and many schools accept and review applicants on a rolling basis.

A few things you should be thinking about for the application process should be:
  1. GRE's: You should plan when you will be taking them (if the school requires it) and if you are not a great test-taker, give yourself enough time to take study and take it a second time.
  2. Pre-requisites: Know which schools require what pre-requisites. For example, some schools may require a speech or communications class. It is best to go to the school program's website and make sure that you have or plan to take all the required pre-reqs. While some schools allow you to have a couple of pre-reqs not taken at the time of application, the more you have done, the stronger applicant you are. So, PLAN AHEAD!
  3. Hours: Some programs require a certain amount of hours in different settings (such as acute vs. outpatient). Know which programs require how many hours in what settings. It's best to have these hours COMPLETED when you apply. Schools like UCSF do not calculate hours that are "in progress" into your application.
Let me know if you have any questions!
